The TRU8885-2 from Uniden is a cordless phone with a built-in answering machine, caller ID compatibility, and expandability to 10 handsets (model TCX800). It comes with one handsets, one that recharges in the base unit and another that recharges in the included remote charging cradle. The latter requires only an AC outlet, so you don’t have to worry about additional phone jacks. Since this expandable phone system came with two phones and a base and my requirements had changed, I wanted to add another phone. However, this is a discontinued product, all that is available are refurbished examples of this phone. I had to resort to a refurbished phone offered on eBay.

The phone was as advertised, however, I couldn’t deregister the phone to add to the new system using the methods prescribed in the Uniden owners manual.

Resolution
This resolution applies to the Uniden PowerMax 5.8 Ghz, Model TRU8885-2. Press the END and # buttons simultaneously until the phone displays Deregistration Complete and then Place handset on main base to register. Put the phone on the base, it will register in seconds. Done.
