If you’d prefer not to sign in to Windows with a Microsoft account, you can switch to a local account at any time. Once you’ve made the switch, the option to remove the Microsoft account entirely will become available.
Step 1: Switch to a Local Account
- Open Settings with Win + I
- Go to Accounts → Your info
- Under Account settings, click “Sign in with a local account instead”
- Follow the prompts — you’ll be asked to create a local username and password
- Sign out to complete the process
Step 2: Remove the Microsoft Account
Once you’re signed in with a local account, the Remove button will appear on the Microsoft account entry.
- Open Settings with Win + I
- Go to Accounts → Email & accounts
- Find your Microsoft account listed under Accounts used by other apps
- Click on it and select Remove
⚠️ Note: Make sure you know your local account password before completing this process. If you use a PIN to sign in, you may be prompted to set up a traditional password as part of the switch.
