One of my continuing tasks is to search for a free open source web analytic application. There are very few to be found. An application that promises to be very good, is PiWiK. It is still in the very early stages of development and has a lot to be desired. It is, however, the continuing development of it’s predecessor phpMyvisites. phpMyVisites is a free open source (GNU/GPL) application for measuring websites statistics.
The Process
I wanted to incorporate this application into WordPress, however, could not find a plugin to do so. I could edit the footer.php file in the theme, but that would be sloppy and a risk of losing statistics upon activation of a new theme. I found a plugin for PiWiK and modified it to work with phpMyVisites. Of course, credit is given where credit is due and this is my first attempt at a plugin, it may not work for everyone, but it did for me.
