Hack the Nook Color

There are many different approaches to hacking the Nook Color, some are quite elaborate, some only detailing Linux or Windows procedures from one degree to another. This approach, from what I have read, should not void the warranty of the product. It will allow for either booting into the the original Nook or booting into the Android OS. This is…

Interesting PDF Tools

There are many tools and utilities that exist that assist in the manipulation of Adobe PDF files, however, some seem more difficult to find than others. This is a list of some of those more difficult to find tools that are interesting and useful for the manipulation of PDFs. It is compiled here to serve as a reminder to me…

SARDU, the Antivirus Rescue Disk Utility

When it comes to the removal of a virus, Trojan, pest, or some other malicious application, it has been my practice to isolate the problem by removing it from the equation. What is meant by that is that there are cases where the system is inoperable or where several applications have been hijacked like Task Manager, Registry Editor, and other…

VMware ESXi 3.5 License Restriction and ghettoVCBg2

In a test environment, VMware ESXi was needed. ESXi 4 supports 64 bit, and ESXi 3.5 supports 32 bit. Based on the hardware configuration, ESXi 3.5 was selected. However, we were interested in knowing how ESXi compares to ESX in terms of restrictions or “cripple” functions. After searching through the Internet and VMware to determine how ESX 3.5 and ESXi…

Linksys T-Mobile WRT54G-TM with DD-WRT makes for a faster internet connection.

I recently purchased a Linksys T-Mobile WRT54G-TM with DD-WRT v.24 pre-installed. I wanted it for the client mode so that a couple of remote devices and computer can access the internet without having to wire the house. Originally, all devices were accessing a wireless access point through their wireless network cards. However, after installing the WRT54G-TM router in client mode,…

Google Urchin 6 Quick Evaluation

Google purchased a web analytics software package, called Urchin. Urchin 6 has evolved into a powerful web analytic for a reasonable fraction of the cost price of applications like WebTrends. Urchin 6 is only available through a selection of Google authorized sellers for $2995. That purchase price includes everything that there is to offer, unlike Urchin 5, where additional modules…

Google Chrome

Google Chrome is an internet browser that is one of the newest internet browsers to hit the market. Google Chrome offers address bar suggestions for both search and web pages, thumbnails of top sites, and shortcuts to applications. I downloaded it the other day to see how my website and others looked. To check if anything appears broken or incorrectly…

Philips High Performance Amplified Indoor Uhf/Vhf/Fm/HDTV Antenna review

An HDTV (High Definition Televsion) is not an HDTV if you are unable to access any HDTV stations from it. Creative Labs: Another dissatisfied customer

I had been reading through more of the Creative Labs forums, and came upon this post that is so well worded that it doesn’t need to be paraphrased. It seems that the creative Labs forums in general have become a battlefield of spam and discontent. This is yet another thread detailing another who is completely dissatisfied by the way Creative…

EMC Documentum eRoom 7.4.0a a must upgrade

A couple of weeks ago, I upgraded eRoom from 7.3.4 to 7.4.0 (7.40.500.183), which was released on March 11, 2008. On March 28, 2008, EMC Documentum eRoom 7.4.0a (7.40.500.184) was released. Unlike previous versions of this product, 7.4.0 is no longer available. For example, version 7.3.3 and version 7.3.3a both exist and are still downloadable. This raises the question, what…

Creative Labs Stock Price as a result of Daniel_K

I discovered this annoying forum from within Creative Labs. The subject is Daniel_K please apologize to Creative. The opening argument contends that the stock market value of Creative has been adversely effected by Daniel_K, personally. This is completely false. The opening argument I think it would be best if you made an apology. The fact of the matter is that…

INI/Helpud.CL Trojan most likely a false positive

After performing a system scan, a single file, Desktop.ini under My Pictures\Desktop.ini was detected as INI/Helpud.CL Trojan and was cured by CA Antivirus. If in fact this were a Trojan, it would have been benign and would not have done any damage to the system. However, I am not the only one reporting this anomaly. Others are reporting the same…

Creative Labs, Phil O’Shaughnessy attacks Daniel_K for modding drivers to support Windows Vista

I don’t usually post such things. However, I am greatly disappointed in a decision that Creative Labs has made regarding modding their official drivers to allow several model sound cards to function at least exactly the same in Microsoft Windows Vista as they did in Microsoft Windows XP. There are several model sound cards that had functionality removed, even when…

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition vs. Developer Edition

Recently encountered the question as to the difference between Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition vs. Developer Edition. At the time, I didn’t have the answer. Now I do. Enterprise Edition will not install on Microsoft Windows XP; however, the Developer Edition will. I also compared the folder structure, for differences. Essentially, the SQLSERVR.INI checks the SKU from the SETUP.INI…
